Eco Divina

Eco Divina is a practice that draws upon the rhythm of Lectio Divina, but has the landscape as its focus.  This can be a great way of praying with some/all of your senses.

Read the landscape: You might begin by simply standing in one spot and take a minute or two to be still, particularly making an effort to quieten the mind.  Sense where your feet are, and pay attention to your breathing.  Then take time to slowly look at the landscape around you. Engage all your senses, gently paying attention to what you see, hear, smell, taste or feel.

Reflect on your experience: As you engage your senses, is there something that draws your attention—a particular colour? or sound? or smell? Or feeling, like the sun on your skin? Focus on whatever is calling to you and notice what connections, associations, memories, or insights are coming to you. Remain open and curious.

Respond: Where is your reflection taking you?  What response do you want to make? What invitation is it perhaps offering you? Listen for the invitation it might be offering  you—a prayer, something to ponder, an action or change to make.

Rest: Once you have finished your meditation and response, return to experiencing the landscape as a whole again and spend some more time in stillness/silence, resting with the Creator.
