Spiritual Direction

What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is about finding someone to be alongside you on your journey. A spiritual director is a ‘soul friend’ to help you pay attention to what your soul needs for a joyful and meaningful life.

Each spiritual director brings different gifts to the conversation.

“I come away from a session feeling like I’ve had a rich time.  Thank you for the effort you put in.” – SE

“It has been a great blessing to have your constant support, prayer and wisdom. You have encouraged and challenged me to go deeper with God and always to find the gift in whatever situation I found myself. Thank you.” – MC

Looking for something else?

If you’re looking for a different kind of conversation, coaching might be useful to you.

What I bring to spiritual direction:

Inspiration and practical wisdom

drawn from the Christian mystics (pray-ers) - people like Catherine of Siena, Hildegard of Bingen, John of the Cross, Ignatius Loyola, as well as more recent figures such as Teilhard de Chardin, and Cynthia Bourgeault. Their writings, insights, and clarity about the primacy of prayer in the reality of day to day life, have much to offer us.

Deep listening

honed through many years of pastoral ministry, spiritual accompaniment, and life-coaching, that will help us pay attention to the movement of the Spirit in whatever is your reality just now.

An artistic approach

Because as an artist I appreciate that not everyone filters their world primarily through words, and prayer needs its creative expression.

An active commitment to help our earth heal

I completed further training in eco-spirituality in 2021 and I am part of a small international group of Spiritual Directors who continue monthly to explore ways to help people connect prayer with the climate crisis in ways that are empowering.

A personal commitment to pray

For you every week, to receive regular supervision, and an ongoing commitment to further develop my own knowledge and skills for this sacred ministry.

“I  value the very perceptive questions which you ask that often cause me to find deeper truth, not only in the session but between sessions.” – RD

Anam Cara

is Gaelic for Soul Friend and finds its roots in Celtic Christianity.

‘When you had an anam cara… you were joined in an ancient and eternal way with the “friend of your soul.” The Celtic understanding did not set limitations of space or time on the soul. There is no cage for the soul. The soul is a divine light that flows into you and into your Other. This art of belonging awakened and fostered a deep and special companionship… The anam cara perspective is sublime because it permits us to enter the unity of ancient belonging.’ John O Donohue, Priest and poet

How does it work?

We have three sessions, over three months, usually via Zoom, to explore whether it works for both of us.  Each session lasts approx 50 mins and typically costs £55, for those able to pay.  And yes, you can experience deeply sacred moments over the web.
