Catherine of Siena was forced to appear in an ecclesiastical court in Pisa to give an account of her activities. She
was a long way from home, falsely accused by those who should have been supporting her. For the first time she
sees the sea, and what a contrast to the Tuscan landscape! What was it like for her to see something so fluid, so
calm, so blue when compared with Tuscany and its green hills; rich, red soil and serried ranks of vines?
